Synopsis

Trigger Warning is a Netflix action-thriller directed by Mouly Surya and starring Jessica Alba as Parker, a highly trained Special Forces commando who returns to her hometown after her father’s sudden death. What begins as a personal investigation soon turns into a violent conflict with a powerful criminal network controlling the area.

The film tries to mix emotional revenge drama with high-intensity action. The core idea is simple: a daughter uncovering the truth behind her father’s death while using her military skills to fight corruption and gangs. On paper, it sounds like a classic action setup, similar to many “one-woman army” revenge films.

Visually, the movie is decent. Some action sequences are staged with energy, and Jessica Alba performs her physical role with confidence. She fits the tough, no-nonsense soldier image, and the film occasionally gives her moments that feel engaging, especially during hand-to-hand combat scenes.

However, the biggest problem is the writing. The story feels predictable and heavily recycled, with weak character development and a lack of emotional depth. Supporting characters are underused, and the villain side of the story never feels truly threatening or unique. The pacing also struggles, especially in the middle portion, where the film becomes repetitive.

Even though the film attempts to deliver a gritty, serious tone, it often falls into cliché storytelling and standard action-thriller formulas. The emotional weight of the father’s mystery is not explored strongly enough to make the audience truly invested.
